Lets be honest-
HOPE IS HARD.
It is a challenge to embrace hope as a loved one embraces alcohol and drug use to the point of losing everything and everyone straight through to homelessness, overdose, hospitalization or jail.
We walk as zombies through our days, paralyzed by fear of death. We pray for long-term treatment, and when that doesn’t happen, jail and prison.
Every face on the corner with a sign is your child- you drown in feelings of restlessness, failure, guilt, and shame. The unbelief that their addiction has taken over to this level is boggling. Every choice they make supports one thing- their high.
Still we sit and pray and hope for change to come. We learn to forgive and let go. For many, this will not include reconciliation because there is too much damage, abuse, and pain. And that’s ok- reconciliation is NOT part of forgiving. But forgiving helps you to heal, to move past the pain and not carry the anger anymore. Forgiving comes with or without an apology or even accountability.
Releasing is where we meet the calm peace in hope. We can see the light again and see past the pain to the possibilities of better tomorrows. It is hope that we can go on living our lives while praying for those who are lost. Hope will remind us that our lives are ours and their life is their’s; two different worlds that do not have to collide into one mess.
Hope will lift you up and carry you through. It’s a gift we receive to endure this world.

Surrendering a loved one to “Do whatever it takes, Lord” is one of the hardest and most loving things we can do for them.
