“Who Failed?”
A chat about unpacking our choices in handling a loved one’s addiction. What did I do right? Or wrong? Did my decisions assist addiction or place a firm boundary around it?
Holding onto God while you hold onto an addicted loved one is challenging. As a parent of children battling addiction for over a decade, I understand the tremendous pain and grief parents live through. We have witnessed overdose, sobriety, relapse, and recovery.
Addiction kills thousands of lives every year. It is a family illness in that it affects every person who loves the addict. Drug overdose deaths are reaching unprecedented levels and costs the U.S. economy over $600 billion every year. Many people who suffer from depression and anxiety also battle substance use disorder. Addiction impacts children under the age of 18 and up through adulthood. It is found among all demographics, social classes, and nationalities. Addiction and mental illness do not discriminate.
