Poetry- Seeking You

This may be the most powerful thing I’ve ever written. Thank you, Jesus.

“Seeking You”

In private places in darkest rooms

There are scary faces, and a child groomed.

To cry alone, to sacrifice.

To live each day, dead, but alive.

Innocent, she lay in the devil’s lair,

Not a tear in her cry, but a question,

“Jesus, are you there?”

One turn in the darkness and a glance at the door.

The face of an angel, and a child torn.

Do I dare move or cry out?

Do I whisper, scream, or shout?

Frozen, the hold more than she can bear.

As evil laughs in the devil’s lair.

Satan, do you know Him? Do you remember His Name?

The One who overcame you, victory in the grave.

Do you know Jesus?

The One who took you down?

He who sent angels and shook the ground.

For every fear and hopeless night.

Do you feel the pressure of the Savior’s might?

Years would pass, and the devil lied.

A young woman now; still, he tried.

To tear her down and maximize the pain.

The private rooms in darkness, still hunting

But now nothing changed by day.

Behind the lock, the waters ran.

The tub became the ocean

under a ceiling of stars.

Every piece He held together,

as every seam tore in a young girl’s heart.

Outside the door was the devil’s lair,

but there, alone, she asked again and again,

“Jesus, are you there?”

Satan, do you see Him?

Clothed in pure and perfect love?

Do you feel Him?

He who shines in the darkest night

In, out, through, below, and above?

He held my hand as you held me down.

Over and over again,

He untied your weak attempt

to keep me bound.

For your temporary hold holds no power,

in the places within, where Jesus is found.

A grown woman now,

yet even on her own, the devil appeared.

He’d knock on every door of every home, laughing at her fear.

A knock, then sit and wait. Minutes became hours.

The devil longs to win, but to win, you need power.

She’d stay put with her children, ignore evil at her door.

As he calmly knocked more and more.

The battle went further than any neighbor knew,

When he finally left, she’d whisper,

“Jesus, was that you?”

Satan, do you feel your defeat?

Jesus, the man I’d yet to formally meet?

He was there all along,

watching you scheme.

In the graves you dug, over and over,

He came in and rescued me.

Do you see Him?

The One I never knew, but knew to call?

He knows, because he knows all.

His authority must enrage you,

His Divine Presence unnerves.

You move limited by a single location,

well, two, hell and earth.

Where you tried to bury me

is the very grave where I placed you.

Where the fear and hopelessness went to die,

and the bitterness would subside.

Because there, under piles and piles of dirt,

lie the tattered pieces you could never convert.

What you tried to crush rose with Holy fire.

With deep commitment and living desire.

What you tried to kill, steal, and destroy,

is now alive, redeemed, and sealed with joy.

Was Jesus there?

Yes. He was.

That makes Him my everything.

He knows the details I will never share.

He knows because he was there.

In the darkest shadows, in the deepest crevices of pain.

He sat with me unconditionally,

in the hardest nights and coldest rain.

He swam with me in daydreams,

He encompassed my life until we met.

Even when I had no idea who He was,

He patiently reminded me,

so I’d never forget.

Today, with half my life behind me,

I see Jesus in every step.

No matter my direction, wherever I stopped is where we met.

Whether I walked steadily in faith or stumbled in doubt,

Jesus, I sought then, and Jesus I seek now.

Never rest on why He allowed such things.

But consider the fact that he never left me.

He was there when alone was all I knew.

That’s the defeat of evil over a child groomed.
