I can’t allow a hijacking of the concept of letting go and letting God.
It’s not about being done with their soul; it’s about handing them over to a God far more capable than myself.
Letting go allows God to work in their life and our own.
Yes, distance may come when we finally surrender. It’s not a punishment, but it hurts everyone involved. It’s a ‘time out’ to get the heart and mind right with God. Chasing addiction becomes an addiction in itself. Slowly, each step brings us away from God and into separation from Him as we pile addiction junk in that space.
In the gap between chasing addiction and letting go, we find a peace we can’t always understand. In the surrender, we see His strength to love unconditionally, in truth.
A truth that tells us about the love of Jesus, his sacrifice, his command to go and sin no more, and His travel map toward eternity. Truth that flows from grace and mercy to the repentant heart. Truth that loves the least of these. Come as you are; never stay the same.
Loving outside of truth is nice, but is it really love?
So, no, to let go and let God is not feeding your loved one to the dark monsters of hell. It is asking God to care for them in the place you cannot follow. And it’s asking Him to care for you.
