(A walk with anxiety..)
The walls are closing in.
The air is rolling thick.
Lights begin to flicker
With each breath I’m taking in.
Anchored by invisible weights
Chains rattle, and tears fall.
The crowd has gathered,
I see each face..
But see nothing here at all.
Fear rises and overtakes.
The fury resembles
Other days.
Push away with
Gathered strength
Of mighty power
In untamed faith.
The sea of faces have no clue
Not one knows my name.
The crowd carries on,
Life carries on..
I carry on.
And watch alone,
As anxiety awaits.

This is a powerful writing. Thanks for sharing this. My teenage daughter battles anxiety and depression, and I am trying to help her work through all of those thoughts and feelings. Again, thank you for sharing this, and for your honest writing.

Thank you Joan. It can be a very difficult issue for those of us dealing with it. Praying for your daughter!

I too fight a battle with anxiety and depression. There are says when it seems to move to the background and I can breathe but then it roars up in a moment. Thank you for this poetic reflection.
