I challenge the heart
who claims to love.
Who is in your sight?
Do you see the homeless vet?
Or is he beyond your eyes?
How about the lonesome widow, or the orphan on the street.
Tell me if you noticed, did your eyes meet?
That young mother
broke and afraid,
Did you judge and walk away?
Did you even pray?
Or the lonely man who leaves the bar, stumbling through last call.
Or the anxiety-ridden, fearful stay-at-home mom?
What about the convicted man, recently released.
Do your thoughts consider him forgiven, and in need.
Did you shake your head
at the rehab door?
Because you knew it wasn’t their first trip,
but fourth?
And what about your fellow believer,
depressed, yet again.
Did you ignore their call?
Do you delete their text?
I challenge the heart.
who claims to love,
to see beyond their comfort zone.
To never let their promised faith
leave behind a broken soul.
Love in every way,
And tend to every need.
And fill the open margins,
With faith, they can see.
Be the only word,
Offer the only way.
Lead in love for Jesus,
To those you see today.
