Five Minute Friday-Convenient

This week I prepared meals that all came from a convenient menu, and had no healthy benefit, whatsoever. I have no guilt, nor do I make any apologies. I needed a break. One way to get a break is to skip the need to fulfill some I can do all things in the kitchen through He who gives me strength mentality. Cooking is not a strength of mine. I am fine with this.

Convenient has become the norm- convenient food, convenient homes, appliances, cars, phones that double as camera, computer, calendar, and entertainment. We desire convenience. Life is hectic, I get it.

Our church recently switched to disposable communion. This has not felt like communion to me since. I do not complain, I am not writing here now to complain. I am simply stating, it seems convenient more than relevant.

There are some ‘big’ churches in my neck of the woods (huge!). They have service on Saturday and Sunday, multiple times, and they have drawn large crowds. You walk in, hear some music, listen to what is typically a great sermon, and walk out. There are cookies in the lobby, coffee, hot chocolate, and all that. There is no fellowship time, no Sunday school or classes of any kind. It is what I refer to as ‘fast food church’- pull up, grab your meal (a meal that may not be super healthy, but takes care of your hunger and thirst), then all slowly filter out the doors, and head straight to the parking lot. Usually the act of vacating such packed lots is the only inconvenient part of the service. Those crowds though, the convenient church can truly pack a crowd.

Relationship with Jesus Christ is anything but convenient, and requires us to sit down, look him in the eye, and take in a full course. Relationship, never wrapped in convenience, nor sustained with hamburgers, french fries, or the best chicken sandwiches on the planet Monday through Saturday, is the very opposite of convenient. Never forget that.

The end.

I invite you to visit the website of Kate Motaung for full details and rules (well the one rule).

All are welcome and invited to take part in joining women around the world for Five Minute Friday! You will be given a prompt word, then simply take five minutes of your day to write a heartfelt, authentic message (no need to edit) using that word!

  1. You wrote what I was thinking! You are SO right in saying that relationship is anything but convenient. Here’s to praying for the words and the way to write more about this inconvenient but phenomenally blessed Christian walk! God Bless!
