Daily Dose-Mental Health Devotional for Trust that God is Your Refuge

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

A few years back, I landed the opportunity of a lifetime. (if you love animals like I do). Searching for a small job, I stumbled on the position at a local animal sanctuary for an office assistant. I pulled up to that slice of heaven with hope and joy. The nerves spoke for me when I called the office lamb a goat.

It was a privilege to be a small part of the refuge. Our mission was to save neglected and abused large carnivores who had NO business being captive and to offer them a forever retirement home. They would roam on 20-acre habitats for the remainder of their days.

The word refuge took on a whole new meaning for me. The Sanctuary provided a safe home with constant and complete care, 24/7. That is refuge. Each rescue required a time of rehabilitation. Small steps were made to ensure trust would grow and healing could begin. Nutritious food and vitamins were dispersed to build strength.

This concept is what I hear when I read this single verse. Constant and complete care of my soul is what God desires to provide. He is the rescuer through my troubles. His love renews and rebuilds me from the inside out.

When has God been your refuge? Are you in need of a refuge today? He’s there for you, waiting.
