Five Minute Friday-When God Opens Doors

I am listening to the sounds of preschoolers walk through the hallways. They are supposed to walk with a bubble in their mouth and arms crossed in front of their bodies. I think they get a few feet successfully, then, the sounds of popped bubbles erupt. You can hear a giggle, or a sweet voice correct the child in front of them for not walking appropriately in line. By the time they reach the restrooms, it is a scene just short of chaos, and the teachers repeatedly remind these beautiful children, “Get a bubble in your mouth, arms folded, and stay in line.”

I have worked in this church for three and half years now. I love my job. It is a blessing to collaborate with this family as their church manager. I started as an office manager, but quickly learned, to work for the Lord in this capacity, goes beyond the office.

You see, I don’t attend services here. I had a ‘church home’ prior to leaving my last job- executive assistant at the largest wild animal sanctuary in the world. I passionately loved my job and the animals, but life forced me to make some hard decisions-and l had to walk away in preparation for a couple surgeries I would have that year. After my recovery, I returned to work here, taking a new direction, and dedicating my life to the Lord in an entirely new way.

I have discovered that different denominations do things differently, imagine that. However, we all work toward the same goal- to know Jesus and love like him. (This happens to be the motto of my home church, but it fits everywhere!)

Every day I discover how my heart can dig deeper than I knew, and that I have much to learn. Each year that passes, I discover that I would not want to work anywhere else. I truly love being involved with His work, day in and day out. When you work for a pastor, you discover how your entire life is about Jesus, and the love he has for all his people. There is so much to do.

In this new endeavor, I discovered what it means to live for Jesus. As the time passes, I stay more in God’s word than I ever have. Each part of my job is a reminder of the dedication and devotion that we must have to Christ Jesus at all times. Whether I am creating a bulletin or entering weekly contributions, everything I touch is a part of the ministries that point to God. For this, I am truly thankful.

You know our lives are spent in discover mode from the moment we become mobile, well into adulthood. For me, the last few years I have intentionally focused my life on discovering God. From there, he opens my eyes to discover myself in far greater ways than this world has to offer.
