Where was the good in abuse for over a decade as a child? Where was the good in watching my fiancée collapse from a cerebral hematoma and wake up out of a coma weeks later as though he was seven years old again? What was good about having bipolar disorder? I could keep going, but you get what I am saying. What was good about any of it? NOTHING!
One word in the Bible repeatedly shouts at me, and the repetitive reminder requires us to both be active and to stop and listen, all in one word: perseverance- doing something despite difficulty and delay in achieving success.
Surrendering everything is not exactly the picture we see when using the pants on remark. Typically, we imagine becoming a tough "chick,” shoulders back, maybe our nose even a bit pointed up. We roll back those sleeves, and maybe some even 'spit'! It is like a green light that suddenly flashes and we throw down the gas and go!
The barrier I struggled to face was not about the abuse, the abuser, or anything really related to those many years of torture. The barrier was one I erected, one I had to be willing to confront and to tear down- one block at a time- it was- “Jesus, why did you leave me?”
s much as I love those times of running away, God tells me I do not have to run to rest.
as the shade of day fights to hold on..
yellow fades and in comes a misty blue..
He knows just where you are,
in the moment of death you seek..
He is the mightiest of mighties,
as you find your weakest of weak.
I won’t continue to feel beat up by a past that hurt me, ridiculed me, took advantage of me, shamed me and tossed me away. I will not hold back the gentle truth, no matter how harsh it is. I will not give up on people simply because they choose to give up on me. I will not be that person...
We have overused terms such as “offended”, “offensive”, and “judging” in place of using scripture. We have become afraid to remain black and white on the issues of right and wrong, because that right and wrong may offend those who don’t agree, may push away those who don’t want to accept truth, and lower the numbers in pews on Sunday....
He is good. He is faithful and true. And when you pray, I suggest you believe in His ability, because he’ll remind you
